The past couple of weeks, the children have been working hard on identifying their colors and shapes. We continue to learn all about colors this week. We have been reading "Pete the Cat, I Love my White Shoes" and doing some other language activities/stories that talk all about colors and shapes. The children have also been using the Smartboard to match and identify colors and shapes. We have been enjoying having music and our other specials with our friends in the new 3 year old classroom! A little over a week ago, our playground was open for play and boy is it the best playground ever! There is so much space to walk and run, a neat play structure to climb and slide down, some seats that spin around and around, riding toys, the list goes on and on. It is definitely the highlight of our day!
We've been having some fun times in the 3's last week and this week! Last week, we had a new and special visitor come to see us.....an adorable therapy dog named Daisy. The children got to pet her and give her some yummy treats. They absolutely loved it! Daisy was so sweet to the children and the children were just as sweet back. On Monday, we took advantage of the gorgeous weather outside and ate our afternoon snack on the picnic bench outside of our classroom. It was so refreshing outside! We are really looking forward to being able to eat more snacks outside once the spring like weather is here for good! What a cold week it has been! Very fitting for our January theme of winter. Today, we had a wonderful music class with Ms. Paula. We sang all about the clothes we wear when it's coooooold outside! It sure sounds like we are going to have to bundle up this weekend with the winter storm heading our way. We may have done a snow dance or two this week :) Today's art activity involved the children using ice to paint. They absolutely had a blast painting! Some of them were so tempted to eat it....it did look like a Popsicle after all! We hope everyone stays safe in whatever weather comes our way and just a reminder- we follow Wake County Public Schools when it comes to closings and delays. Happy New Year everyone! We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and that 2016 has started off great. I can say that 2016 in the terrific three's has started off AWESOME! Yesterday was our first day in our new, much bigger school and the children were so excited about it! They walked in a tad bit confused, but also VERY excited. Ashley Kate and I were a tad bit worried that it might take some time for the children to get use to it, but of course, they surprised us and it was just like another day of school! We are so proud of them for how awesome they were through the whole move (our classroom was bare and full of boxes the entire last week of school in December!). The children have found some new favorite spots to play and are loving the winter dress up clothes. We need them for a day like today! Brrrrr! This month we will be learning all about winter (winter clothes, snow, snowmen, penguins, etc.). We may also do a snow dance or two here and there :) Have a great week everyone! -Mrs. Kelsey & Ms. Ashley Kate Howdy everyone! Sorry it has been so long since the last blog post. We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It's hard to believe that it is already December. We have already started off the week decorating some stockings and have a lot more fun activities planned for the remainder of the month. Today, we had language group with Ms. Hanvey and did an interactive gingerbread man book. The children absolutely loved it! They all got to make the gingerbread run, run run! They also worked on matching different colored gingerbread. They worked hard the entire language group! We can't wait for the next two weeks with Ms. Hanvey because rumor has it that a big gingerbread cookie might appear in the classroom! Yummy! Hello everybody! I wanted to share with you the fun activity we did on Tuesday. We made our very own applesauce! earlier in the month we did apple tasting and the children really seemed to enjoy it, so I found a recipe for some slow cooker applesauce (thanks Pinterest!). We used a 4-step communication device that the children were able to touch based on what we were doing (1) put apples in pot 2) add ingredients 3) stir, stir stir and 4) eat)We used our measuring spoons to add some lemon juice, nutmeg and cinnamon. We then poured the apples and did lots and lots of stirring to make sure they were all covered. The children absolutely loved stirring the apples. They were all saying yummmmm! We cooked it for about four hours and while the children were napping, we let it cool off and then poured it into cups. It was a major hit! Everyone loved it. It was a little chunky, so I wasn't sure if the texture would be an issue, but it wasn't at all. I am pretty sure they would have eaten a second serving if there was any left. Now I know for next time to double the recipe! Hi everyone! We hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween this past weekend. We had so much fun celebrating at school. During the month of November, the children are learning all about food, turkeys, and Thanksgiving. On Monday, we did an apple tasting. Each of the children either took a bite or licked a red apple and a green apple. I think it's safe to say that the green apple was quite sour! All of the children were very willing to taste each apple (probably because they knew lunch was next!)! After the tasting was finished, I used two big macs to ask each child what his/her favorite apple was. One big mac had a picture of a red apple and the other had a picture of a green apple. It was a pretty even split! We had 4 children choose green and 3 choose red. We will be doing some artwork with apples later in the week and have a VERY fun apple activity planned for next week. Stay tuned to find out what it is! Happy Wednesday everybody! It has been such a busy week in the Terrific Three's and it is only Wednesday! On Monday, Ashley Kate did artwork with all of the children. They each got to paint paper pumpkins and they are now being proudly displayed on the wall outside of the classroom. Yesterday, we had music instead of movement because our movement teacher is out of town until the end of October. We had SO much fun with Ms. Paula. The children absolutely love singing songs with her and playing all of her fun instruments. Today was a VERY exciting day during Language Group with Ms. Hanvey. We carved a pumpkin! The children used a device to tell Ms. Hanvey what shape they wanted for the eyes, mouth and nose. Our pumpkin turned out great. Ms. Dawn incorporated a sensory activity with the lesson as well. We took the pumpkin "guts" and put them in plastic bags. The majority of the children were able to touch the inside of the pumpkin and the seeds, but they were not huge fans of it. Now that it is inside a plastic bag, the children are a little more interested in playing with them. In addition to language group, we have had two more fun activities this morning. Ms. Gabbie (our curriculum students from Meredith College) did a wonderful matching and and color recognition with the children using painted pumpkins. It was so much fun! Lastly, Rosie, the therapy dog came to visit us in her Halloween costume! She was a 50's girl! The children got to brush her and give her a treat. They always love seeing Rosie. Rosie gave us a fun sticker and some Halloween pretzels that were sent home in backpacks today. That's all for now. The children are resting up for a fun day at the fair tomorrow. We can't wait to ride the rides and eat some yummy food! It has been a farmtastic week in the terrific three's! We have been learning all about farm animals and the sounds they make. We have been reading "The Farmer in the Dell," "Barnyard Hullabaloo" and singing "Old McDonald." The children have been doing a wonderful job identifying farm animals using pictures and objects. Earlier in he week we did some dot painting with the dot markers. On Wednesday, Gabbie, our curriculum students from Meredith College came and did her creative activity with the children. They painted with colors that you would see at the farm. The children had a BLAST using their fingers and hands to paint. Today, we did a FUN activity before lunch. With the help of some chocolate pudding, we made animals play in the mud. Every single child figured out that the "mud" tasted wonderful, so we ended up having a tiny pre-lunch snack ;) They loved making the animals super dirty. The terrific three's are so glad the rainy weather is gone and have enjoyed a full week out on the playground, FINALLY! We hope everyone has a great weekend! Howdy everyone! What a yucky week it has been outside. I know we are all ready for this rain to be over with. We were so sad that we had to cancel our farm field trip; however, our OT and ST made the kids their very own farm this morning! Shortly after the children got to school, we went to a room down the hall and played with lots of activities that involved fine and gross motor skills, along with speech. The children had a blast! We have been working hard this week identifying animals and the sounds that they make. One of the art activities we did this week was coloring a barn and putting animals on our barn. We will continue to learn all about farm animals next week as well. There are also some other pictures below of activities the children have done over the past couple of weeks. We have lots of pumpkins and leaves starting to appear in the classroom! Happy Fall! We hope everyone has a safe weekend. Stay dry!! |
